Honestly, I don't believe that politicians even know of the true nature of our Monetary System... How can they know about that when they don't even know the living conditions and adversities of their own constituents? They spend too much time campaigning and not working.... That's why they don't know.....

Politicians and banks hate gold, the like to create money out of thin air, A gold standard would make them behave rationally and they dont want that.
