The Berlin Wall was used to keep people IN against their will. The US Mexico border wall is used to force foreigners to enter our country legally like everyone else has done since 1776. There is a huge difference! If there is anything SAD about that, its the unwillingness of some foreigners to obey the immigration laws of the US. Comparing them with East Berliners is really SAD!

I'm a diehard democrat but this was an example of leadership. Great moment! Sadly we now are now building a wall of out own to keep out South Americans.....SAD!

Economically, the ussr had been collapsing since the seventies and in hindsight it's collapse was inevitable with or without USA intervention. Reagans policies did no more than to create paranoia in the soviet system. Due to it's industrially based economy and its failure to keep up with the technological boom that hit the USA, Japan and other democratic countries (which were allowed provate markets and industries - unlike the ussr) in the 1980's, it's ability to support itself declined.
