Israel as a nation has interests that do not relate to American interests.
AIPAC pushes for Israel's interests.
This month two AIPAC officers are to go to trial for supplying secret Pentagon military information to the Israeli embassy.
AIPAC promotes the interests of a foreign nation, sometimes illegally.
The spin is that Israel's interests are America's.
The spin is that Israel's enemies are America's.

To the say that AIPAC is a powerful lobby misses a very important point. This is not the type of lobby that one can legitimately compare to i.e. some dairy subsidy, or even the AARP. To say that the pro-Israel lobby is powerful is only to say that people feel it necessary to use their own resources to ensure the survival of a country.
