That's not Ginger, in case you haven't figured that out, but George Murphy.

Jazz wants a racetrck to whizz around, Showmusic is a different flavour. See what Ray Anderson(tromb)and Barbara Dennerlein(HammondB3) have done with Night and Day, its bawdy, noisy and irreverent, still very ewxiting

'Genetic Engineering'? We substitute chords, to make basic progressions 'more interesting'. But we have to stay within limits else the song becomes something different. Standards by various composers use similar progressions. We can 'quote' from a song, when improvising another. Porter apparently didn't like Jazz musicians 'altering' his songs.
So, Porter or Gershwin? Porter the more classy, but Gershwin wrote fine stuff. Thanks. John

valvetrom: You can find some budget CD's of Cole Porter doing his songs. I remember the inset of these cd's being dark w/gold letters. I have one I can copy for ya. (I'de do it for any serious CP fan. Email me. Although I don't know any Japanese, I can tell this video is sincere and warm. Thanks for this different viewpoint.

I love Porters music even more than Arlans or Gershwins, my favorite song is DREAM DANCING, any body got a recording with Porter? His tunes are able
to be played as Jazz without gentic engeneering on the chord sequence(the DNA of Music). But Gershwins"but not for me " needs just that, see what MJQ did with it or with "summertime"!!
