I think there is no question but that Ives is America's greatest composer. I'll go one further and say that the case can be made that he was the greatest composer of the 20th century.

What happened to the sound on this? I have my speakers turned all the way up, as well as the volume control on the video, and I can still hardly hear this. (The other vids I've been watching are fine, so it's not my system)

You also have Elliot Carter. Cage didn't really accept Ives until later in his career. Roy Harris would be a more likely candidate with his alleatoric melodies which were a direct extension of Ives later works.

Surely a great composer, no doubt.
Which is the grand-father of this? But "Warum?" of Robert Schumann. The lines of the melody are very very similar in these two pieces.
