agreed. i dont think he's the the greatest, but he's genuinely underestimated. his feel, he's combinations and sound. the only way to grasp somewhat of an understanding is go see him! i had the privilege to see him w/ happy apple and twice w/ bad p. the 2nd time they were playing w/ kurt rosenwinkel... killin.

Just sat in front of Dave King for 2 shows in a row. Flim was the encore for the 1st show, Physical Cities, the 2nd. King is not human. Bass drum work alone is as awe-inspiring, incomprehensible as was Buddy Rich's. He may look good in this video, but sit in front of him and he is 10X better - and his syncopation is nonpareil. And, yes, I've seen many of the greats - Tony Williams, Cobham, Morgenstein, Bruford, Buddy, Carl Palmer, Ginger Baker, Elvin Jones, Morello, etc.

I have seen this live twice with out that sound. David King does a lot of amazing things with a small drum kit, but I think Tchad Blake would get credit for that one.
