Pennsylvania House of Representatives Public Hearing
A DIALOGUE ON IMMIGRATION IN THE COMMONWEALTH
The Intergovernmental Affairs Committee of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives held a Public Hearing on Immigration in the Commonwealth on Thursday, October 25, 2007, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., at PSLC 12th Annual Conference.The focus of this public hearing is to begin a dialogue in Pennsylvania on the complex issue of immigration. The purpose of this hearing is two-fold. First, we will be obtaining pertinent information from various stakeholders on the issue of immigration in the Commonwealth.
Secondly, we will seek comments and recommendations regarding the immigration legislation in our committee to assist us as the Commonwealth moves forward on the issue. There are currently four pieces of legislation in committee: HR 280 (Rep. Cruz), HR 286 (Rep. Metcalfe), HR 346 (Rep. Eachus) and HR 751 (Rep. Creighton).
This hearing is an opportunity to hear from federal and state agencies and private organizations to obtain the most accurate information and statistics available.
