you test the area with a pan and if you get some color, then you know its time to set up the dredge or sluice. most gold bearing streams and rivers are documented. research first then prospect the area. when you find some, start digging deep! every year new gold comes in from the melting snow/rain and erosion of the mountain. good luck!
