i have never worn any thing but gloves and a gum shield, but then again yeah its much safer in the long run and its up to ho ever fights as well, What ever floats their boat(=

It's an Amateur Muay Thai World Championship.
Amateur rules require the wearing of protective equipment - just like Amateur western boxing (as seen in the Olympics) ;-)

I was in the Army when I fought, I usually trained at the Chiang Mai gym in Newcastle and with Master Toddy in Manchester. Steve was one of the big hitters from the Preston Phraya Pichia in the late 80's, early 90's. Nice bloke, the last time I saw him, he fought and lost against one of the Harrison brothers, I can't remember which one it was, it was, it was a lot closer than they gave him credit for though.
