This is the best performance I've seen she's done! Fantastic!

Alright, yes it's impossible to reach the top if one is terrible at singing. However, I daresay an uglier singer with a better "potential voice" would be overlooked if one was confronted with a mediocre yet shmexy Netrebko. Ach well I'll just stop arguing now ;-]
I belong to the legion of blind fans but I'm hoping to tone it down soon haha.
Yes they do all deserve our respect; I think of most opera singers as "superhuman".

Well, tastes differ and some don't like a dark coloured voice. But I don't think it's possible to reach the top in legitimate opera if there ain't some real talent there - not even for a singer as pretty as Netrebko. Opera fans (not necessarily you) have the annoying habit to overdo it with the negativity though. They either argue that a singer is superwonderful or else she/he sucks. I know it's not done on youtube, but I think that they all deserve our respect.

To my mind, her "acting" is over the top. To me, this year's soloist in the Last Night of the Proms, Helene Grimaud has far more sex appeal and talent too. She doesn't flaunt it as she doesn't have to. I

Fine, she's legit, but that does not mean she sounds good to many people ;-]
She has incredible acting & her gorgeousness going for her...not her voice so much in my opinion.

Sure, but thank God that we have Netrebko also. Having a bit of fun is not a crime - not even for an opera singer. And Netrebko is good for opera because she's popular AND a legitimate opera singer, unlike for example Jenkins, Bocelli or Church.

There are still people like Dessay & Damrau, thank God.

She's great.

This is the state of opera today. Woeful. I cannot undertstand a word this woman is warbling. O how I long for the days of Mathis, Te Kanawa, Stader, Ludwig, Janowitz, Schwarzkopf.

Haha sure I believe , hypothetically, that you certainly weren't her first. She has a husband after all. But somehow I don't see her going for...a 28-year-old named RatFlinger. She's not a cradle-robber. |
