Absolutely miss John, miss being able to tune in on my way home from work and listen to the angry death metal followed by jungle followed by punk followed by blues with that fantastic voice in between - you were always guaranteed to hear something good, something new, something interesting. Nobody has or ever will come close.

Hi msbgyn1, an important comment to add to the already told: John Peel was the only person who could interview Nick Drake the legendary guitarrist and singer songwriter.

Legendary DJ from the UK, sadly now passed away.
He was about the only DJ who played punk on the radio when it started, and would get bands into the BBC studios to record sessions for his show which would invariably lead to their first record contracts. It's not too much to say that punk as we know it and all the music that came afterwards couldn't have happened without him.
There's far to much to tell in this small space - look him up in Wikipedia !

Why don't you play something that YOU would like to play.
John would never have played something in your memory.

John does his very best when faced with questions so banal.
She asked the same question twice. And the third question was just uninformed.
John is smart enough not to make her feel stupid though, and talks very well for eight mins with no help at all from the interviewer. |
