neither was I, I was 15 when he released the Rising, have seen him 3 times now... with and without E street, and I went to Khe Sanh, & Saigon in Vietnam.... Thanks for giving my life this turn....

a sign of a good song is when you can play a totally different version of it, and still do the song justice. im seeing him in about two weeks in milwaukee, it will be my first time seeing him with the E street band. I wasnt even born when this song was released! ha.

This must be influenced by Blind Willie Johnson. His "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was the Ground" was included on the Voyager Golden Record, sent into space with the Voyager spacecraft in 1977. The song is also used in Pasolini's The Gospel According to St Matthew; Walk the Line, a biopic of country singer Johnny Cash; Ry Cooder, who based his soundtrack to Paris, Texas on it described it as "the most soulful, transcendent piece in all American music." Bruce covers a BWJ song 'If I Had My Way'.
