The results of the Prius vs the M3 were not that surprising: without braking for stoplights/signs the Prius is not recharging its electric motor or shutting off its engine- the two technologies that allow it to achieve great MPG. It WAS straining its engine by driving at a high RPM, hurting MPG, while the M3's engine would be far less taxed, allowing better MPG. When you drive in a hybrid without really using the electric motor, like on the highway, all those batteries are just dead weight.

The EPA doesn't know shit about mpg. Just a little bit less than they know about the environment.
