Hah! How does he do that? Sing with a very eccentric accent, plays the guitar, does facial expressions, hold his laughter? LOVE HUGH!

Look up Al Stewart, especially his song "Year of the Cat".

I just found on wikipedia (article on A Bit Of Fry And Laurie) that he acts apparently a bit like Robert Smith of The Cure.
But until now I didn't find an exemplary video.

seems to be a bit like Bob Geldof (Boomtown Rats)

:D
I'm aware of the fact, that Hugh Laurie is English and I also know and love A Bit Of Fry And Laurie.
My question was if the style he sings this actual song was a parody on an another artist. Especially the strange laughing at 0:30 and the reaction of the audience made me think that he maybe copied some other famous singer.

This is from a BBC Programme called A bit of Fry and Laurie back in the 80's/early 90's but Hugh Laurie (who wrote all the song bits for the show) is now House (from the drama of the same name) He is actually English but does a great accent on the show House.

Is this a parody on some specific artist?
