I've tried both OpenSUSE and Ubuntu, and I'll keep trying new versions of these distros cause I'd like to know when these things improve. I've till this day always had to apt-get the nVidia-config panel and open that in su-mode from console to change anything to my likening. Granted that didn't require manually editing xorg.conf, but I happen to have 4 monitors on 2 GPU's and a tablet and that surely is too much for a userfriendly settings interface on Linux.

Strange.. there's been xf86conf now xorgconf for a long time that do that for you in a graphical way. Try again. Maybe you tried a shitty distro.
