i don't think it was based on her book, but neil realised afterward that it was very similar and added a reference to ayn rand in the liner notes of the album... let me find where i read about that!

yeah, it's a shame. It's because Peart based the song off of the book "Anthem" by Ayn Rand. In the book the same story applies except the discovery is with a lightbulb. Peart probably tried to keep things as symilar to the book as possible.
