I can guarentee you that if you think your opinion on how those figures work is right, you will lose money. The idea of trading spot FX or anything with the NFP has more to do with pull backs and retracements. This guy, would lose money if he did what you did unless he closed his positions while he was spinning in his chair.

He is either betting directly on the unemployment figures (ie Non farm payroll) using NFP futures/options, or shorting USD as the market anticipates a weaker USD if actual figures are below expectations.

You're being ignorant. If you are a trader, you have to bring in atleast ATLEAST a million a year to the firm. That means about $4000 a day. If you're down $1000 one day, you have to bring in $5000 the next. If you go below $15000 in one day, you get fired. You're stressed out all the damn time, and why should you care whats the best interest of someone else? As long as everyone cares for their own interest, we're all good. Thats how it works. There is technically nothing wrong with it.

you don't know very much about finance if you don't know why the unemployment number is important. If he's betting on employment, he's going for bonds, forex and leveraged instruments.

i think you missed the point. This is no a depict of reality, but a statement agains that huge monster of selfishnes that americans are. The movie is alegorical. The monsters how work in wall street dont care about this. Most of them musn´t even care about that every single action they perform... hundreds lose their homes Well, at least... until now
