This is the latest incarnation of the HDF video. The narration has been edited to include research from a paper in Physical Review Letters (2004) which puts the size of the universe at 46.5 billion light years, not 78 billion as I originally stated. In the video narration, I round that value up to 47 billion light years. I also took out Numa Numa guy.

If we look honestly at the astronomical odds of there existing a planet such as ours that has intelligent life, we have to conclude ours is unique .. in fact the result of a Creator.

And theres no God? Please! The heavens declare His Majesty. Psalm 19:1

If one looks at all conditions needed to find a terrestial planet in the "habitable zone" (ie where H2O might be found), includung the type of galaxy, location/type of star, location/type of the planet, and features of other planets in the solar system you end up with a list of approx 140 features of the cosmos as a whole (including laws of physics) that must fall within narrow rnages to make life possible. Add up the probabilities for each is 1/10^-132. There are only 10^80 atoms.

No, it's not statistically impossible for the existence of the conditions we have on our planet lol. Did you watch the video??? Multiverse theory just gets to the point of absurdity though.
cbelcort (October 13, 2008 at 12:12 am)
The fact that it is statisticaaly impossible for the existence of all the conditions needed for the formation of intelligent life on a planet such as ours, is the reason there is so much interest in the "multiverse" model. We need an infinite number of universes to overcome the impossibility of finding life like ours. It is "scientifically" improbable (ie impossible) to find intelligent life by looking only in our known universe.
operations1000 (October 12, 2008 at 11:28 pm)
Well scientifically speaking it's pretty much impossible for us to be the only ones with life. The odds would be VERY against Earth being the only habitable planet in the universe. Were talking 1 to some unconievable number.
BuddhaWannabe (October 12, 2008 at 7:39 pm)
To think with all that space out there and neverending galaxies.. do you really think that we are alone? That intelligence is only in our own solar system out of the multi billion, trillion of solar systems out there? If thats true... what a waste of space..
Eithball (October 12, 2008 at 6:01 pm)
yep but that dosent mean there arent other life forms in other galaxies, that are completely different than us

I regret my coment on the Univ of Puerto Rico in my last post. It is actually a good University with quality research comig out of it. My coment was unacceptable and I apologize.
cbelcort (October 12, 2008 at 3:22 pm)
"mark sukhram from the infamous Univ of Puerto Rico has made the claim my prior comment was inaccurate. It is curious this intellectual giant was unable to state a single fact supporting his accusation. This search for extraterrestials is pointless when you look at ALL the conditions needed for a planet like ours.
