Effortless, and yes, Wynton does normally write his own cadenzas if he's not improvising ;)

Flawless performance and a great example of how to communicate the music to the audience. Was that Wynton's own cadenza? If so, very well considered and executed.

funny, the video quality makes it seem like a painting almost.

The solo (without the orchestra) is called cadenza as far as i am informed...

Exellent. Although I prefer Philip Smith interpretation. He is more elegant and his trumpet sounds really good. Maybe because Smith played this piece in a much dryer concert hall instead of church.

cadenza. credenzas are home furnishings.

hmm, is it just me or does he seem to switch to the paralell minor at the start of the cadenza?

So so awesome. Thank you so much! I played this movement for U.I.L. (American high school competition) in 1987. I copied Wynton's interpretation note for note, as best I could. (credenza? What is that thing called..the solo? I forgot. ((Not WMs, of course. Could NEVER have managed that one.)) But I got a good grade and I thank Wynton, who is barely older than myself.
