that's not completely true...my friend went to loyola chicago which is still 1st tier but ranked from 50-100 rather than 1-49, and she's making close to a six-figure income

i dont think you accounted for inflation. Seeing as how we dont know when this person went to law school. If it was 10 years ago it would be a significant decrease in tuition. enough to make it feasible that they graduated with no loans.

Pick the highest rank. I was recruited from a lower ranked school, with almost a full ride... I decline it for the higher rank

Unfortunately law is an extremely elitist and hierarchical profession. If you don't go to top ranked school you get treated like shit for the rest of your career.

Reading all of the information on the internet you never really hear from actual lawyers about how hard it is to get a job afterwards. I'm hoping I get into UT of Austin because it is decently ranked and I'll only have to borrow living expenses...If one of the higher ranked schools came along though I would likely take it even if I have to pay my way.

It's all in who you know. What's most important is that once you get where you are going you need to network, network, network. I also have an issue with historically black law schools not being ranked fairly. Schools like Southern University, Thurgood Marshal school of Law and Howard University have consitantly beat schools like Tulane and Loyola and LSU in moot court competitions and produce some of the best litigators and have yet to recieve any acknowledgment. Something is wrong here.

go the the highest-ranked school that accepts you. It is simple as that.

For all of you considering going to law school, don't! It is a complete waste of time and a tremendous amount of money. There are 2M JDs in this country with only 500k practicing attorneys. It is a simple supply and demand scenario. Don't go unless your parents are paying for it, or you get a considerable scholarship. Otherwise, this mistake will haunt you for the rest of your life.

What was your stat? Where did you get your undergrad degree from?

The higher ranked schools have more firms recruiting from them and higher paying jobs out of law school. Never turn down a top20 in favor of other lesser ranked schools. Sure you pay more now, but in 10 years you'll be making more than the people from Podunk U with their scholarships. |
