I got the Rage in Eden, Vienna and Quartet albums in 1983 when I was 14! They're all brilliant, but Rage is by far the darkest album they ever made and it's all the better for it. I also saw them play at the Hammersmith Odeon in June 1984 during their "Set Movements" tour at the age of 15 - my first ever big gig! They were fantastic and I still like them to this day.

I wonder why they failed to make it big in the US. Their music was far better than most other 80s stuff. Maybe they hired the wrong agent??

They were never that popular or well-known in the US. They were the quintessential 80's synth band but they just weren't mainstream. Ultravox lyrics can be some of the most haunting that you'll ever see...I'm still trying to find a video for "Mr. X." |
