Douglas Adams was the best-selling British author and satirist who created The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In this talk at UCSB recorded shortly before his death, Adams shares hilarious accounts of some of the apparently absurd lifestyles of the world's creatures, and gleans from them extraordinary perceptions about the future of humanity. well the simple answer to the "need" for new things although we already got them right,is economy (stupid).how are you gonna make money? you have to make people THINK that they arent satisfied anymore by what they have, its just not enough anmore.its simple laws of free market.you need variety and plenty of completely unnecessary items in order to preserve this overconsuming society we have built.the funny thing is,we love it so much that we would sacrifice the whole planet for it.
