We finally got some calcium carbide for our "Big Bang" brand carbide cannon, but it wasn't "Bangsite" from the Conestoga Company. We crushed it up to make a powder and used the piezoelectric igniter from a previous video to fire the cannon. Shooting a projectile was kind of disapointing, and the bangs were not as loud as I remembered them. Might need to change the amount or quality of the carbide. It was still fun shooting! -Electroman49

My bad - I'm so frustrated here I got the powder color backwards ! Its good when its silvery in color - not light in color. Short shelf life - spoils with exposure to air or moisture. Keep cap on tube tight !

Also, that powder has to be stored air tight in the tube !! Half of yours is dark gray/black. It is useless unless light colored ! Even in the original tube it has a limited shelf life. Only pour ONE shot at a time. You've never heard your cannon fire properly - THUD !! LOL !

Tou wait WAY TOO long to ignite !! Do it in 3 to 5 seconsds !! Thats why you get "duds". These fire a sharp, LOUD CRACK not "thud" !!! I just wrote same on the Howitzer vid. What makes you guys think you have to wait ? I was 10 years old in 1964 and knew how to do it right !! LOL !! Its not a science project !! Make that sucker BLAST like its meant too !
