ebaystars : quote; so you cant blame them for a little sporting behaviour at air shows
This is hardly a little sporting behavior. This is reckless so extreme that I would consider it a criminal. Even veterans and brass have to follow airshow rules and military regulations.

they are meant to drop hydrogen bombs, i don't think you fly like that with nukes on board!

i call it air showitus, my wife's sister married a B52 pilot he's told me about their intensive low-level training, and war in 'nam, so you cant blame them for a little sporting behaviour at air shows. Maxim, there's old pilots and bold pilots but NO old bold pilots.

I thought B52s have ejection seats in them. That is terrible to see.RIP Gentlemen

I think there's a fine line, he's obviously very skilled, I cant imagine for a second any of the things he did in that plane are easy by any stretch of the imagination

Theres animated drawing at Wikipedia explaining the accelerated stall. I think it puts it very simply and elegantly.
Link is in the video description.

Was that the same pilot in allthose videos

So true, so true. What can you expect when you fly at the edge off stalling all the time.

If you sketch the free-body diagram, you will see that at higher bank the centrifugal force will combine with weight and push the plane against the lift. And beyond critical angle of attack, the lift will drop below those two force and the plane stall regardless how much airspeed it has. The reason of increasing bank is this, not the wind. And it is the reason why large airplanes cannot bank that much of fighters. He didn't have a good bank, but deadly bank.

I feel sorry for the crew that got stuck with that pilot. I agree with the report, this reflected a sad breakdown in a chain of command that is supposed to hold superior officers to a higher standard. The second that breaks down.... well, THIS happens. |
