I agree, that's partly why I don't eat meat.

so is the mass culling of cows, but since its not exactly a "cute" animal people tend not to pay attention to it until the News mention's "mad cow disease".

Mankind is capable of sending men to the moon, creating bombs that destroy people but not buildings... all kinds of clever stuff... I would have thought the problem of how to restock the Newfoundland area with cod would be a doddle. But then we'd have to stop making fish shaped cod nuggets and all the other kinds of shit that we feed ourselves now.....oh I forgot clubbing a baby seal is cheaper, thats why. Silly me.
Sometimes mankind needs a fucking kick in the arse to get its shit together.

but then wasnt it the chinese that used to murder girl babies by suffocating them in sand boxes in the 50s, 60s and 70s?
We dont seem to have a very good record as a species really do we.
Nature will have her way, she is more powerful than man.... we should not be so careless about destroying her gifts... for in the end we will all suffer.
walkingbear56 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
I was refering to the fact that WE human beings have overfished ...therefore it is not the seals fault... it is us to find the solution to the problem as it is us that have created it.... the solution is not bashing the poor seals over the head with a fucking club...
perhaps we should stop fishing, introduce cod stocks to the area and let nature rebalance the situation. WE have done about as much damage to this planet already... making it "better " by murdering seals is inhuman
joelfracis (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
what in heavens name are you talking about. The over fishing that happened in Newfoundland has left the cod populations desistated. I dont know what you think seals eat but cod is their main staple, and they eat alot of cod. If the cod population in Newfoundland is to remain at all then certain steps must be put implace to ensure it. Is the killing of baby seals right NO, but in order that they do not starve to death the populations must be controlled. maybe that will prevent seal starvation EH.

It is human beings that have "all but wiped out the cod population" by over fishing. To say to cull is to help save the cod is a bit arse backwards. Stop the factory ships that trawl for cod.. stop the amazing wastage that human beings create to supply supermarkets. We as a species should be on trial for the callous destruction of other species...perhaps we are, somewhere in the galaxy. Let us hope that god is not a seal. |
