Wheew... Xeon is far faster, cheaper and doesn't get so hot as a G5. Apple used this to explain their transition to Intel. The G family was powerful, though. Let's just say IBM wasn't getting G6 right, and Apple dumped them.

like a week a go you were able to get a refurbished one from the apple site for like 700. they recently took it off. maybe they only had one and someone bought it.

Dont get a POWERPC Mac. You wont be able to run snowleopard when i comes + apple wont get very much more "universal" software for PPC :( Get 1 with the early intel chips...

The only benefit of a Mac OS in my experience is the lack of virus's. But that's not because of the operating system, that's just because no one makes virus's for Macs. Plus, I have had a Vista system for 2 years now, and haven't had any serious virus issues with it despite the fact that I don't use expensiveness Anti-virus software. Just free stuff.
