@Damnedsoul8: "...the age of taking over countries with force is over.." Really?? The last time any countries invaded other soverign countries was when US invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, and Russia invaded Georgia. Also when USSR occupied Afghanistan, Central Asia, and Iraq invaded Kuwait. Wtf does China have to do with this.

The Chinese killed 1.2 million in early 1960 then almost all of Tibet, they depopulated and transformed Tibet into a killing field dotted with death camps and mass graves.

Three dollars a day is not enough for any worker, wether they are in China or Timor, they deserve better. Just because our governments have let Timor down (I agree with you) doesn't mean we don't try to help as individuals, so a little less of the 'shameless westerners' comments please.

Plain Western jealousy. Australia bullied E. Timor to sign away her oil resources, USA gave Timor over to the Indonesian Army to genocide 200,000 civilians, Britain exported arms to Indonesia for use in E. Timor. Shameless Westerners. This is pure business dealings. Why don't you West invest in poor Timor? Cos you can't get fat profits. 3 US Dollar a day IS THE LEGAL WAGE OF A FACTORY WORKER IN CHINA. What r you cpmplaining about ?

The poor people of Timor Leste are being exploited again.

Australia should be doing more for our neighbour, instead of plundering their resources. Succesive Australian govts have let the people of Timor Leste down to many times. If China and Cuba want to provide aid to the Timorese in return for alliance, then who can blame them for accepting it. The Australian government can and must do more to help Timor by providing medical and developmental aid and by handing over a larger slice of profits gained by exploiting Timors resources.Without the military.

If you walk around Timor there are chinese everywhere, from construction workers, street vendors, prostitutes, etc. Most of them came after ET independence. I condemned the government policy!

a guy sells t-shirt. you ask him wondering why its so expensive. he responds " I am here to make money". In this case its trade. Whether you think of it as ethical or not -your powerless and your thoughts are trivial. The government there makes those decisions fair and square in their rules. Fairness is a commodity

Well, the UN is heavily influenced by China and Russia, who both have veto power
