just the first two systems from choir #1. This is a motet for 8 SATBB choirs. I wish I could post the entire score, but it is impossible so, go to www.cpdl.org for the full score. Spem in alium numquam habui praeter in te Deus Israel qui irasceris et propitius eris et omnia peccata hominum in tribulatione dimittis Domine Deus Creator coeli et terrae respice humilitatem nostram I have never put my hope in any other but in you God of Israel who will be angry and yet become again gracious and who forgives all the sins of suffering man Lord God Creator of Heaven and Earth look upon our lowliness

Very nice! Imagine how rubbish this would sound in a small room with no reverberation! As well as celestial voices (soprano and tenor in particular), the reverberation really adds something to this masterpiece. I love church music, espeacially renaissance and medieval a capella numbers. This one really hit the spot!

I checked: Henry lived from 1491 1547, and reigned after 1509. Tallis was born around 1505 and outlived Henry by almost 40 years (d. 1585). Anne Boleyn was queen consort from 1533 until 1536. That would have made Tallis about 20 as "The Tudor's" opens. However, Tallis did not show up at court until 1543, when Anne had been decapitated for 7 years.

Actually, that's probably anachronistic 'poetic licence' on the part of the show's writers. Tallis was apparently born toward the end of Henry VIII's reign. Still, they did you a service because Tallis is wonderful. If you love Spem in Alium, you might love Allegri Miserere, which I think is sublime.

All our local choirs combined to do this work in a concert a few years ago. I was 1st soprano in choir one. It was such an amazing experience, I'd come home from practice at night and go to sleep with these beautiful sounds ringing in my head. I loved singing this!

the whole notes are like half notes and the half notes are like quarter notes... hope that helps
