Are you training JKD?
Because normally there is no knife fighting in JKD at all!
Have you read "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do" by Bruce Lee?

I agree with some aspects of this knife fighting system. The only complaint I have is that I fail to see the defender control the weapon arm. You can practice all of the moves you want against an opponent;but wihtout controlling the weapon arm I find it to be useless.

Not correct, destabalizing the attacker can sometimes be done before the weapon has a trajectory at all. Stabalizing the weapon is not neccesary if you gain controll of the limb holding it. This can be done with the right footwork and angle training. I highly recommend escrima, kali, arnis specifficaly for that. Some ju jitsu and aikido styles also teach these applications.

For an unarmed civilian the best way is to keep attention. Watch the people who look "strange" for you and NEVER turn your back against them..don`t let them come too close. Don`t behave in an aggressive way - try to stay calm. It often helps a lot to make the other guy seeing you as a human being with a life and a name. And don`t try to "play hero"! If he wants money..give it to him! Do anything for deescalation!! Unarmed combat techniques who try to imagine you "being safe" are fatal! |
