Sounds like when you're opening a new image it's opening over the top of the previous one. Go to Windown>Cascade or press the letter F on the keyboard to scroll through the various screen modes. You can also use CTRL + TAB to scroll through the open images.

but uh, how do I have 2 different files opened at the same time? Because everytime I open a new image for the animation, my old image would disappear...
