P.S. I'm big fan of John Butler, but whilst he has a big cult following here, he is no way mainstream in the UK, which is the point I was trying to make.

OK, it's down to personal taste and I respect your opinion, but I reckon Newton has a far better voice and he does it standing up! Also he's 10 years younger - just give Newton another 10 years practice, which is actually how long he's been playing guitar so far!

I beg to differ, dingbatthe1st. John butler is better, n started playing this kind of music before him

I must agree with you - Newton would never make that claim himself and is still in awe of the late Eric Roche, who taught him. I think Newton's main contribution is that he's the first musician for a very long time, who's broken into the mainstream, certainly in the UK & Aus, and made acoustic guitar 'cool' for a whole new generation.

Which is very true and the reason why I really like Newton! Was just responding to lozzalovesyou's comment about Newton be put down in history as the best guitarist ever.

Trace Bundy is a great player for sure, but he's not singing, is he? There are a lot of great players out there, but not too many that stand, play and sing and the same time, like Newton.

I love Newton's album, but his guitar playing skills are definitely outmatched by other artists. Have a look for Trace Bundy's "Dueling Ninja's". I do agree with the fact that Newton's an awesome singer/song writer and has great guitar skills!

No contest - Hendix is master of electric and Newton is master of acoustic (and singing at the same time). Newton has said in interviews that he's rubbish at electric (solid). Also he's said there are better acoustic players out there, but there ain't no-one who writes, play AND sings better!
