I don't know about other countries but in Norway in particular there's a lot of very narrow roads (including in the mountains) and the speed limits are extremely slow, meaning the drivers sometimes get "lazy" and lose their concentration (meaning they can lose glimse of a pedestrian or another driver) or just speed by quickly way over the limit...which can easily lead to accidents. I think most accidents take place at night thought by teenage drivers who decide to "show off" to their friends.
