holy shit...seems like this "Jaco-Flea" competition thing is never going to end...I've heard this argument since I discovered bass guitar...and its FUCKING STUPID, both have their good and bad stuff, just shut up people!! it's a matter of taste, you guys have to understand that "the best musician" is a fictional character!! thanks to all the fellas who have been mature enough to accept this.

Jaco isn't my idol. I love his playing, but he's not my idol. He, however, has had more success at writing a bass solo than anyone else in existence, and when you hear him play with other instruments, his all-over-the-place style meshes so well with the rest of the band, without following a guitarist, keyboardist, or horn player. He developed his own role for every song, filling out the empty spaces in the tone, as well as ripping some mind-bending progressions that I still have issues grasping.

OK, fanboy, enlighten me. What is it about Jaco that you such a defensive hard on? Is it his dymanics? Tempo? Musicianship? Chord progressions? I'll bet you have no explanation or reason.
