What????? Are you actually suggesting that to save from boredom we should go out and start a war? If people could co-exist, instead of wasting billions on the war efforts, we could put that money into curing disease or exploring alternate energy sources, or even helping rid the money crisis hitting everyone at the moment.

He isn't actually saying that he has done something great to change the world. the lyrics imply that everyone contributes to and experiences human tragedy, that we cannot escape anguish except with love. I didn't personally think it was meant to be an activist song, but a man mourning the state of his world and finding comfort only in ideal love without implications. meh. youtube two cents :)

Hmm, people don't get it. Everyone asumes that he was a good man and that he helped the poor and shit just because he sang this song.
