Lots of kids don't say shit when someone is talking to them. Especially not about important things. They don't really understand, its like they just don't know what to do. They kind of get it but they don't and they're intimidated. Thats exactly what any kid would do when someone talked about his dead father cause probably his mother would almost never talk about him so honestly. Its about as real as a child actor can be.
