On September 24, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Executive Order 10730. The order federalized the Arkansas National Guard and ordered the Secretary of Defense to employ the Arkansas soldiers as well as federal troops to enforce a federal district court order in Little Rock, Arkansas. Within hours 1,000 soldiers of the 327th Airborne Battle Group of the 101st Airborne Division deployed to Little Rock from their base in Kentucky. The following morning, troops from the 327th surrounded Little Rock Central High School while a small detachment went to pick up nine neatly dressed black teenagers. After a short drive, the soldiers and their charges reached the school. Staring straight ahead the youngsters formed a single file and, surrounded by some of America's best soldiers carrying rifles with bayonets fixed, they marched through a jeering crowd into the school to begin the fall term after two previous failed attempts. As the nation and much of the world watched, Central High School became desegregated. The 14th amendment to the United States Constitution, which mandates that no American will be deprived of the equal protection of the laws, had been upheld. This video is An interview with Mr. Ernest Green, of the original Little Rock 9.

Chad, it's "segregation" -- not segration And if the school is worse for everyone, then do something to change it. Make it better! I would have hoped you would have learned something in the past 50 years. Segregation Never Helps Anything - it divides, it does not unify! We live in one America! If the students in this school are tearing down the school; then lets give the students something to be proud of, lets give the students something to fight for; lets give the students HOPE.

The HATRED in California's Proposition 8 is reminiscent of The Hatred the Arkansas 9 fought back in 1957. Today, in California, Right-Winged Religious Zealots are attempting to amend the California Constitution to promote discrimination, hatred and bigotry. If you have any friends who live in California, please urge them not to eliminate anyone's right to marry, and to VOTE NO on Prop 8! Thank you!

I thought about it too, but then it hit me. We celebrate and learn about American culture every day, but we do not have to call it white history months. But I understand your point. All of us have a different cultural background. But what unites us all is our love for America and our culture. If there is a black history moth is because blacks had it a lot harder than many other immigrants, and the civil rights movement is a huge part in American history and in the shaping of our culture!

You can't have a formal white history month because we learn about white people every other month. We got one month and the shortest month at that. Get it together.
