Even though they operate independently from China, Taiwan is not recognized a sovereign nation by the U.N. This is because every attempt to become independent is vetoed by China because China is a permanent member of the U.N. Council. China isn't really trying to "take over," per say, but they definitely are not in favor of Taiwan's independence.

wow...ppl like with ur thoughts r still alive...? if taiwan wants to separate, then no one has the rights to deny their rights. anyways, wat ur saying is nonsense. if u haven't noticed, granny, Taiwan has their own government and flag and is independent from china, some of the chinese ppl just dont get that...stop trying to take over other nations! btw: watever, im korean...but i was born in cn, grew up in jp, lives in nyc (sr about the life story)but denying other nations is just mad fcked up.
