As an ardent Rolling Stones fan since 1964, I have to admit that Eric B. had the potential to surpass the Stones. The potential was not actualized for several reasons.......

Wow, I remember this song from the late 60's when I was 8 or 9. Who is playing at 1:03? What a great sound.

Supposedly Owsley dosed the whole crowd and it was dubbed "Monterey Purple". I guess they were handing it out like candy. I can't image Hendrix coming out and blowing everyones minds. WoW! What a time.

It seems to me that Eric Burdon and the Animals are more appreciated in the USA. Here in the UK they are underrated & virtually forgotten

Chas was bass player for the original Animals, E.B. & the Animals was a completely different band (except for Eric). Bass on this track was Danny McCullough, also a world class player (as evidenced on this track)

Saw the Animals 8-13 in Vegas. WOW what a baby-boomer experience nobody under 50 and there was a guy with a oxygen mask on! Eric is grey haired now so his face actually fits his songs. Good concert not great but finally got to him live. He did not sing any WAR songs and sorry to say he did not sing Monterey and his encore was Sky Pilot which he wrote himself and yes after 40 yrs. he can still belt out a song.......................

This is such an awesome track, great rifs, Burdons unique delivery. I love the opening scene, walking into the Monterey Fairgrounds. I saw so many concerts there. My last one was before leaving cali, was Carlos Santana in 1994. He talked to us about playing with Hendrix, Joplin, Redding at the same spot in 1969. |
