HE wrote the song about a Guy who was a Studio Guitarist/Musician...He Was A Guy Who Was Like An "Electric Appliance"...He Was Always There To Play, and He Was On Key, And When The Session Was Over, The Guy Went Home, Like Someone Who Works 9-5.

I think a lot of people are missing half the point of this song, because they don't understand why its called "The Pretender". What does it have to do with pretending? Thats what we need to ask ourselves, I think.
