maybe he is talking about the back problems Neil had at this time, making one side messed up..he had surgery and obviously is ok both then and now

he had polio as a kid and almost died, the same epidemic that left Joni Mitchell weak on one side. He has epilepsy, apparently under control...about this time, he had major back problems, which surgery helped alleviate.
