One theory is that the hypnotist is either Miracle/Ed or the reborn Miracle/Ed. The songs don't imply this. This link was made in the video used in Scenes from NY. I thought that made the story too coincidental without adding anything to the twist. Either way, Nicholas dies at the end - either from a heart attack or from an assault by someone.
