A coronal hole high speed solar wind stream is stirring the magnetosphere with KP=4-5 as a result (active to minor storm levels). After sunset arcs are slowly drifting south, changing in appearance after 23:10 as a substorm has started somewhere to the east closer to magnetic midnight. About 15 minutes later it sweeps through the field of view, followed by pulsating aurora for hours. Towards the morning an arc starts structuring and brightening, indicating another substorm cycle going on as the sky becomes too bright to see it. A crescent moon adds to the scenario the first part of the night.

I am going to Fairbanks March 7-10, 2008. Does anyone want to share drive in the nights with me to see aurora? I am 50+ Chinese man.
