Because it was patriotic to defend a statue given to us by a country that at one time exemplified, along with us, the ideals of liberty. Also, because the statue is an international symbol and such, so knocking it out would hit the whole world, where as attacking, say, the Washington Monument, or the Lincoln Memorial or something would just hurt America. Remember. Back in the day, America really -was- Team America, fuck yeah. We were good guys when we weren't doing unethical black ops.

But production capacities were on our side. And their technology actually wasn't that superior to our own. If anything, I'd think the Joe's had superior technology to Cobra. But ten guys defending the Statue of Liberty? Why would anyone even want to invade the place? LOL
