I never looked at this song "your way".
It is very intresting point of view.
Thing with Vysotsky, in this song, is: It is sort of HIS version of gipsy song (with his vision of lyrics/emotions).It is very touching to Russian (Soviet) people. What amazes me- that you see in it "gipsy act"(No disrespect).
If you knew his story, you would know-
He is, rather, not singing/acting but pours his soul out through his songs.
What still touches people after all these years - his lyrics.

As being gipsy myself, I can understand this. I see this man was not a gipsy, but he was an actor, as all the gipsies are, on their way, while appearing to the white people. The function of the gipsy singer is to interpretate the emotions of the audience, in this case, drunken, desperate, possessed human waste in the end of heavy drinking period...

A Poet is a God's pipe and is not meant to be a fighter. The Decabrists cared for Pushkin and never let him be in the conspiracy. Vysotski's friends always cared for him and helped him out a lot, likewise did Esenin's friends... Anyway, the virtue of a Poet is in their sincerity, not in being pro et contra any particular ideology, social or religious.

He was as big as he was because it was imposible to keep him small.. He was too popular. Why don't you tell us how many songs of his were published on records.. Or what the papers wrote about him after his death? They couldn't forbid him, not in the 70's but they did what they could

Oddly enough, there was a man who took the fall for the Whitewater scandal that President and Hilary Clinton were ALLEGED to have been involved in... he ended up in federal prison and he suddenly died of a heart attack too. Strange how that seems to happen. |
