If you consider their bodies of work, Clapton eclipses Winwood. That's the simple truth of it.
That said, even Clapton rarely surpassed "Dear Mr. Fantasy". Such guitar...

no clapton is a hell of alot better but winwood is a good guitarist but not one of the best by a long shot
