Limp Bizkit could have done a worse job of it by turning it heavy metal.

I feel like when Pete sings these songs, esp. this one, there's a certain personal connection with the song you feel through him singing...and TOTALLY agreed, Limp Bizkit completely disrespected the artistic aspect of this song by making that SHIT cover of it!
I remember last year I played this song for a lot of ppl at a cafe we have here on campus and I said to them "No this will not be the Limp Bizkit version b/c that band should NEVER had existed" and everyone laughed

Roger was always a great presenter of Pete's songs, as Pete has often acknowledged, but when he sings the songs he writes, himself, you hear a whole different dimension. I've always loved hearing Pete sing his own songs. Something about his cadence and the depth of emotion he displays when he sings just makes them that much more meaningful.

This song was written by Pete, and although Roger usually sings it, there's something special about only Townshend singing it.... He has a wonderful voice, and the emotion in this song is amazing! The backing of the classical instruments and flute really make this song. And PLEASE, let's not discuss Limp Bizkit. Those idiot metal freaks can't play this song right; and its a damn SHAME that ANYBODY thinks this song was written by those idiots. Long live the Who and Pete and Roger!

For me, this is the most beautiful version of this song.
I believe that Pete wrote this song about himself.
But, I can't help having my own personal feelings every time I listen to it.
I so much want to dedicate this song to 'Godfrey' - a truly 'lost' soul behind stunning blue eyes...( due to mental illness)
And as he was a 'mod' in them days and loved 'The Who', he sure wouldn't mind.
