Reply to indianmusicdanceluvr: I was at the Royal Opera House from early morning to late evening, for rehearsals, the concert and the reception. Being the shy person I am, I only looked on in awe: Anoushka was always surrounded by her colleagues, but I sat entranced, watching her rehearsal and the actual performance from the wings: the sound of the sitar sort of washes over you and captures your soul and imagination, doesn't it? The best day of my life was in June 2000, playing in a concert at London's Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. I was playing the Scottish Highland Pipes, accompanying Lulu singing "Amazing Grace". Lulu's just great! And also performing was Anoushka Shankar - I loved her playing - and Ravi was in the audience. Name-dropping again: Madonna, Brian Adams, Jimmy Nail, Angharad Rees, Vanessa Redgrave, dancers from Moulin Rouge et al. all performed too. What a great bunch of guys. Bob Ash
