HEY! I love this video! I am a western boxer (golden gloves). I studied ving tsun only a little, because the sticking seemed very useful. Of course, you cannot grab onto the oppenent with hands in Western boxing, but let me tell you, I look at video of my own fights, and I use parts of sticking and turning my oppenent ALL the TIME!!!! Thanks for posting this video, so we can see the little idea as it was by Yip Man!!!!

Actually, my sifu was a student of Ip Chun and Pan Nam. Hong Kong (Ip Man) wing chun is considered a modified form of traditional wing chun. Fatshan and Guangzhou Wing Chun are considered traditional. If you knew Fatshan or Guangzhou WC you would notice some of the modifications. It's easy to tell because his second section breaks the rule of three and I know he did not teach Ip Chun this way.

Ip Man's own sons were the ones who suggested to Ip Man that he leave a record of his own teachings as others were already teaching different things in his name (not going to mention names, cough cough). These were filmed roughly 10 days before he died and passed to Ip Ching's wife for safe keeping. I hardly doubt he left a false record to his own sons. Other forms weren't filmed because he was already too weak. see uncut dummy form. He is hanging holding on to the jong tiredly

aertht69, Why you talk such bullsht. Why would yipman bother make a video at old age to fool people and not showing the real thing. The ownly reason i see he made this video is to keep ving tsun real. Maybe things have changed, certainly in some lineages. But to question his intentions is realy showing no respect. And, how do you know what he thaught and to who? have you been his own student? Or, are you just replayin'your sifu, who probably wasn't either.

Haven't found one yet. All material I've found shows only the modified version. Ip Man's 108 move SLT. If you can find a kwoon that has a sifu taught by one of his sons, you might be shown the traditional style. Mostly the differences are elaborations in movement that lead to modified versions and would be considered unneccessary in trad wc.

Im not saying that modified Wing Chun is not as good as trad. Wing Chun because both have evolved beyond what they were and are based on similar principles. Im simply telling the story as i see it and know it.

Yip Man was originally taught modified Wing Chun from Chan Wa Soon then was taught traditional Wing Chun from Leung Bak who was the son of Leung Jan, who was renowned for his Iron Palm technique. The story goes that Leung Jan taught modified Wing Chun to Chan because he feared an uprising by him which in the end did actually happen. Chan forced Bak to leave Fatshan after the deaths Bak's father and brother.
