We honeymooned in Germany a few years back, and stayed at at inn in Garmisch. We'd dine there daily. There was a British family there- the father was a loud & rude sort, convinced no one else understood English, who insulted all aspects of the locals. The clothes. The trains. Even the local children. When the waitress left the dining room, I whispered loudly, "They're GERMANS! Don't..mentioned..the WAR!" Dead silence. And he spoke in more hushed & subdued tones from that moment forth.
