A personal web portal is a kind of Web site that provides a way into your web world. It contains links to all the resources that you most often use or consider most important. My Yahoo is perhaps the best example. All the other major web players also provide portal options that can be configured for each individual.
A VORTAL is a bit different. This is a shortened term for "vertical portal", and refers to a site containing links to many resources of a specific kind. For instance you could have a Golf portal, Trade Show portal, Golden Retriever portal, Sports portal, Optimist Club portal, or a general News portal. All the links in your portal would point to what you considered your most important or most interesting resources of a specific kind.
